Education CommitteeThe Education Committee is committed to providing educational opportunities for all ages to grow and be nurtured spiritually in their walk with God. There is a CORE group of volunteers using a creative rotational Sunday School program for nursery through sixth graders that explores Bible stories through song, drama, the Bible, games and craft areas. Confirmation students dig into Lutheran theology while the high schoolers explore Christian readings and life application. For these two older groups there are always outreach and community projects to tackel. There are 3 great adult Bible study groups to choose from on Sundays at 9:00 AM and 1 on Saturdays at 5:30 PM. On Sundays there is the weekly Bible lesson with Lisa Lunz, Bad Girls of the Bible with Vicki Garton, and who we are as Baptized Lutheran Christians with Pastor Darwin. Pastor Darwin also offers the alternative time to the Baptized Lutheran Christians adult study on Saturdays. Come join one of our studies and see how the word of God can fulfill your life.
Endowment CommitteeThe Endowment Committee is responsible for over-seeing and administering Salem's endowment fund which includes investing the principle and disbursing the earnings in accordance with the church's by-laws. Any undistributed funds are returned to the fund as principle after two years.
The committee consists of four congregational members and a representative from the church council. The term of each member is four years. Members of the Endowment Committee are elected at the congregation's annual meeting, which is held each January. The committee chairperson is chosen by the committee annually at the first meeting in February from amongst the members. It is generally the committee member whose term expires the following year. The committee church council representative reports quarterly or as needed the assets and expenditures of the endowment fund to the church council. At the quarterly endowment committee meetings, the income to the principle is reviewed, gifts are acknowledged, possible earning disbursements are discussed, and income from the fund is finalized by the committee upon approval of the church council and in accordance with the church's bylaws.
Donations and bequests to the endowment fund are used for a variety of purposes pending approval by a majority vote of the committee and church council. Examples of income distributions are: congregation ministries or improvements, local community projects or groups, Nebraska Synod agencies or institutions, and/or ELCA mission opportunities
